Week 4 Term 4 - 2022
Dear Families,
As Week 4 comes to a close we have many things to celebrate.
- Our Stage 3 students have returned happy yet exhausted from their Canberra excursion.
- We have been given approval for a children's playground to be constructed and a COLA (covered outdoor learning area) to be built.
- World Teachers Day
- Our water awareness has continued this week despite the weather
- We had our final parent meeting for Kindergarten 2023 with many attending.
STAGE 3 CANBERRA EXCURSION
This week we welcomed back our Stage 3 students from their Canberra Excursion. The excursion was documented daily on Facebook with the students visiting the following venues and more.
- The National Gallery
- Questacon
- Parliament House
- The National Museum of Australia
- The Royal Australian Mint
- Electoral Education
- Museum of Australian Democracy
- The Australian Institute of Sport
- The Australian War Memorial
- The National Capital Exhibition
From all reports, they had an amazing time with lots of learning, embedded further by actually being in Canberra to see, discover, witness, and engage. The students are to be congratulated for the way they represented St Joseph's throughout the excursion. We are very proud of them.
We are extremely grateful to McAuley College Years 11 & 12 students, staff, and families for raising money to ensure our flood-impacted students were able to attend.
A massive thank you to Ms Nilon, Mrs Stormon, Mr Wilde, and Mrs Amy Bolkum for your organisation and preparation of the students for the camp and the wonderful care you provided over the 4 days and 3 nights. THANK YOU!
A NEW PLAYGROUND AND COLA 2023
We received the welcome news this week that a playground for the children and a COLA (covered outdoor learning area) will be constructed during the holidays, and hopefully, completed for the commencement of the 2023 School Year.
The COLA will cover part of the concreted area leading out from the current food serving area and provide some shade and protection during the wet weather.
The playground will be placed across from the Year 6 room in the bottom front corner of the school.
WORLD TEACHERS DAY
Today we come together to acknowledge and celebrate our teachers for World Teachers Day 2022
This year, in particular, we take our hats off to our teachers.
Following the floods, our teachers have cared for us and our families, they have created a new school, and been so caring with our learning and well-being, ensuring the whole time that we felt safe and listened to. They’ve worked to make sure that we got to go on excursions and that our school life returned to being as normal as possible despite everything that has happened. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have done to get us through this year in the best possible way.
To all of our teachers, may you be guided, protected and blessed by the greatest of all teachers, the Lord Christ Jesus!
Let the light of Your example shine upon all teachers Lord.
To build up with their words,
To love with their mind, and
To share with their heart. Amen.
HAPPY WORLD TEACHERS DAY 2022

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Year C - The 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Luke 20: 27-38
Jesus answers a question from some Sadducees about the resurrection.
Jesus' response to the Sadducees shows that we sometimes miss the most important things about what God has planned for us because we get stuck in the details of coping with our day-to-day struggles.. Jesus wants us to open our minds and hearts to the possibilities that God has in store for us.
In our busy lives sometimes we just need to stop, take a breath, and then take time to smell the roses.
Stage One Mass: Friday 11th November 9:30 am
The Stage One Mass will be held in the School Church/Library and will commence at 9:30 am.
Everyone is most welcome to attend.
St Joseph's Woodburn - SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
Last term our school was visited by Mr Peter Mitchell "Mitch" who
wrote the "Making Jesus Real" books. He spoke to our students about the Spirit of Jesus and how we can be living disciples of Jesus. He explained that "spirit" can sometimes be a difficult word to understand but the spirit of Jesus is something that we can feel in our hearts and see through other people.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful
Our SPIRIT OF JESUS award recipients this week are Sophie Flanagan and Rose Quirk.
Stage 1 Assembly
All About Bees
On Friday Stage 1 had the first Assembly for 2022 in the Church. They presented to the other students their Term 4 learning so far. Stage 1 has been learning all about native bees. They have created information reports with diagrams and artwork to demonstrate their growing knowledge and understanding of native bees. Here are some of the fun facts they shared
"Our bee art is inspired by our love for bees, we think they are amazing animals".
"Here are some fabulous fun facts about bees. It takes 12 bees their whole life to make 1 teaspoon of honey!"
A Bee's wings flap up and down 250 times in one second and it will visit 2000 flowers in one day"
Frothy Measuring in Maths
Stage 1 has also been learning about measurement in maths. Stage 1 worked together to create a measuring tool that would demonstrate how high the froth went in the mentos and coke experiment.
"We used mentos in our coke bottles, whoosh it came out in a rush"
We are proud of all our hard work this Term.

Students from our school have recently undertaken, an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $45per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
