Week 5 Term 4 - 2022
Dear Families,
Every year it is important to revisit online safety. Teaching your child to be safe online will help them to engage with the online world safely, responsibly, and discerningly and can assist to protect them from online risks.
Sometimes children are faced with online situations that they simply don't know how to handle. At school, we have ongoing opportunities and programs to teach children and young people the knowledge and skills they need to prevent bullying and other inappropriate behaviours they see online, to intervene effectively when incidents occur, to celebrate diversity, and to promote friendship and positive social behaviours.
Common online safety issues for children include cyberbullying, accessing or sharing inappropriate content, and protecting their personal information. In Personal Development and across other KLA's, the children are taught to be aware of the need to refer to their parents, any area of concern about using social media. However, it is still up to us as parents to ensure that our children are safe online.
Helping children to stay safe online is something many parents are concerned about. Knowing about the basics of the online world can help parents be ahead of the game should they need to manage a negative situation.
eSafety is an excellent website for parents to become familiar with. It provides information to help parents to ensure children stay safe online.
Parent Engagement Meeting
Consultation Process-Vision for the Future
We are currently working with the Catholic Schools Office, Capital Insight, and the Flood Commission to plan the consultation process as we look to the future at St Joseph's.
Part of this process is ensuring that we all have an opportunity to have our voice heard as we work together to make informed decisions for our vision moving forward and opportunities to continue to strengthen our work here at St Joseph's.
Our initial engagement session will be held in Week 7- Wednesday 23 November 2022 at 6pm. I hope that as many families as possible are able to attend to be a valued part of shaping the decisions made for our community.
Together we have worked through what has been a very challenging year. I am very aware that for many of our families those challenges continue. However, with the support of each other and much love and support from schools and communities all over Australia, we have made it through to this point. We have relocated, set up a new temporary school, focused on learning and student wellbeing, and supported our families as much as we could.
Whilst we haven't been able to offer everything during this time, we have focused on the priority of learning and wellbeing and we are excited to look forward to the future and hear your thoughts about where to next and opportunities for 2023 and beyond.
I would like to thank all families who have stood by us during a very challenging year. It is when times are tough and we are forced to face challenges that we never dreamed of that we find out what we are truly made of.
I am so proud of our school community and we look forward to planning our future together with you.

Gospel Reading
Luke 21: 3-19
Sometimes when we have difficult days, feelings like sadness and fear can narrow our focus so that all we see or feel concerns us.
Jesus reminds us of the bigger picture—that God is always watching over us, in good times and in hard times. We can trust that God cares for us always.
God is our loving Father who wants us to share with Him our stresses, our joys, our hopes, and our dreams, even though He already knows them all. Just like any conversation, talking to God builds our relationship, trust, and confidence in Him. We are given a glimpse into the heart of God, and we allow ourselves to be loved unconditionally like a father loves his child.
St Joseph's Woodburn - SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
Last term our school was visited by Mr Peter Mitchell "Mitch" who
wrote the "Making Jesus Real" books. He spoke to our students about the Spirit of Jesus and how we can be living disciples of Jesus. He explained that "spirit" can sometimes be a difficult word to understand but the spirit of Jesus is something that we can feel in our hearts and see through other people.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful
Our SPIRIT OF JESUS award recipients this week are Archie Swanson and Charlotte Robinson.
Stage 3 Websites
This Term Stage 3 are working on a digital portfolio that will become a keepsake of their school memories. Students have developed web design skills through the use of google sites. They are able to confidently add pages, subpages, links, photo galleries and more. We look forward to sharing the completed project with our families.
Stage 3 has been focusing the last two weeks on adding a Canberra page to their website. This page has a series of postcards that detail the trip over the 4 days they were away. Students have added photos, links and drop-down boxes to make their website engaging for their audience.
Here are some snapshots from the Stage 3 websites so far.
Water Awareness Program.
The students will participate in a Water Awareness Swimming Program at the Evans Head Aquatic Pool. The four sessions will occur on Tuesday 1st November, Tuesday 8th November, Thursday 10th November and Tuesday 6th December 2022.
