Week 9 Term 4 - 2022
Dear Families,
What an amazing Week 9 we have had, Year 5 leadership speeches, the Leaders 'thank you' afternoon, Wildfire came to St Joseph's, the Swimming Carnival and the SRC Fun day. Throw in Pie Day Friday and it has been one perfect week. A wonderful positive this week was that because we are currently within walking distance of the Evans Head Pool, our Kinder and Year 1 students were able to join us at the Swimming Carnival for the very first time.
This weekend we come together to celebrate the third Sunday of Advent.
Hope is like a candle, shining like a light in a dark place. Jesus, you are light in the world. Jesus, you light the way. Peace … Joy … Love …
Over a hundred people, from the ages of two to eighty years old, were asked the question, “What brings you joy?” From the voices of different generations, hear their answers:
Teenager | Adult | child | Older adult |
Sleeping in my own bed after a night away | A clean Kitchen | Being outside | Sand between my toes |
The beach | Having a camera in my hands | When my parents pick me up | My partner's laugh |
Baby giggles | The end of my to-do list | My cat | Hugs from my neice and nephew |
Stargazing | Putting my hands into the garden | Bedtime books | Forever friends |
Sleeping in | Coffee with friends | Time with family | My new granddaughter |
Talking with friends |

This weekend we light the candle of joy.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Gospel Reading: Third- Sunday of ADVENT Year A
Matthew 11:2-11
Jesus tells John the Baptist of the signs of the kingdom that are being worked through him and praises John as more than a prophet.
We rejoice in knowing that Jesus is the Messiah. He saves us and gives us eternal life in heaven with him. During Advent we can share our joy with others by being helpful generous and kind to others, just as Jesus was.
Lismore Dioceses WILDFIRE MISSION TEAM VISIT
Spirit-filled energy was in the room when the Diocesan Mission Team
WILDFIRE entertained and lead our students through a joyous retreat experience that focussed on the themes of Christmas. Our students reflected upon the significance and importance of the Christian message of hope, peace, joy, and love celebrated at Christmas because of the birth of Jesus. With the Wildfire team's support Our Stage Two and Stage Three students reflected, sang, prayed, and prepared a beautiful Nativity presentation for the whole school.
I would like to that Rachael Kama and her talented team of musicians for their professionalism and the happiness they brought to the children.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper
Next Monday we will celebrate an Advent Liturgy to reflect on the significance of Advent as a time of preparation for Christmas. During these liturgies, the children will be reminded of the importance of being generous and giving to the poor and needy in our community. This year you may like to donate items to place in the school Christmas hamper that will be given to our local St Vincent de Paul Society. Donations of non-perishable food such as pasta, rice, popcorn, canned food, and Christmas treats such as Christmas cake and puddings may be left with Mrs Feros at the school Office by Wednesday 14th December. Thank you for your generosity.
St Joseph's Woodburn - SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
Peter Mitchell who wrote the"Making Jesus Real" books spoke to our students about the Spirit of Jesus and how we can be living disciples of Jesus. He explained that "spirit" can sometimes be a difficult word to understand but the spirit of Jesus is something that we can feel in our hearts and see through other people.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful
Our SPIRIT OF JESUS award recipients this week are Amelia Hume and Lilyjoy Walkington.
