Week 9 Term 3 2023
Dear Families,
As this will be the last Newsletter for Term 3 due to the fortnightly newsletter, I wanted to say a big thank you for your continued support throughout this term. Thank you to our wonderful students for your ongoing efforts in learning and friendship and thank you to our dedicated staff for all that you do to inspire the best.
ST MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP PILGRIMAGE
Last week, I had the wonderful opportunity to be a part of a St Mary of the Cross MacKillop pilgrimage.
With 6 other staff from schools across the Diocese, we journeyed through 3 States by, plane, bus, car and foot and visited many of the places of the events in Mary's life including, her birth, the areas she sent the Sisters of St Joseph to help the poor and neglected in the times of the Early Church, where she taught, her first school that she set up with Fr Julian Tenison Woods, where she was excommunicated from the Church and her tomb in North Sydney.
I feel blessed to have been a part of this experience, where as a group, we attended Mass together daily in beautiful Churches and outdoor spaces and learnt more and more about this incredible woman and all she achieved for education and the care of others. We also gained a deeper understanding of the unthinkable challenges that she faced, all the while having the most remarkable faith and belief in God, in the face of adversity. The courage and strength shown by Mary MacKillop throughout her life is truly inspiring.

GOSPEL REFLECTION: 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus teaches that we must forgive one another as God has forgiven us.
History and Traditions of St Joseph's School Woodburn
This year as part of our Annual School Improvement Plan - we aim to improve our student
s and staff's understanding of the Catholic Values on which our school was built by ensuring they are visible in actions, words and physical symbols
To support our school improvement plan, during Term 3 we will share the quotes and sayings of Saint Mary Of the Cross MacKillop. her words of wisdom are inspirational and guide us in understanding the teachings of Jesus.
Each week our Vice Captains Beau Jubber and Charlotte Robinson will share a significant quote or saying of Saint Mary MacKillop at our morning school assembly. Our next Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop quote from 1868 when she was only 26 years of age -the quote is a reminder of the need to listen to God.
St Joseph's SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
At St Joseph's we encourage our students to look for the goodness in others. Our school Vice Captains-Mission this year Charlotte Robinson and Beau Jubber have been given the responsibility of helping to acknowledge students who demonstrate the attitudes and gospel values that show the Spirit of Jesus.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful. This week the Spirit of Jesus Award was presented to Eli Walsh at the school assembly.
Sacramental Program - Celebration of First Eucharist
On Saturday evening Caleb Doran, Lotte Duignan, Rita Murada, Thomas Walsh and Sullivan McCabe-Dobbie and their families will enjoy the celebration of First Holy Communion.
We wish their families many blessings, and our prayers as they prepare for the celebration of the Sacrament on Saturday 16th September at our Parish Mass at the Anglican Church at 5 pm.
We welcome and invite all to this important parish celebration.
THE SEASON OF CREATION - 1st September till 4th October
The Season of Creation is the annual Christian celebration to pray and respond together to the cry of Creation: the ecumenical family around the world unites to listen and care for our common home. This year we will unite around the theme,
“Let Justice and Peace Flow.”
The Season “Celebration” begins on the first of September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends 4th of October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. Our Pope Francis in his Encyclical Laudato Si reminds us of the importance of caring for our common home.
