Principals Message

Dear Families

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

download.jfifOn Monday night we held our Parent-Teacher Meetings for Kinder to Year 6. I would like to sincerely thank all parents who took up the invitation to attend the meetings to find out about their child's learning for 2021.  I know that it is not always easy for young families to come out at night but hopefully, you found this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher both informative and beneficial. I would like to also thank the teachers for their preparation and commitment in organising these meetings for you.  Soon you will have the opportunity to meet individually with teachers to discuss any goals, concerns, or queries you may have regarding your child's education and I urge you all, if possible, to avail yourself of this opportunity.

ST JOSEPH'S COMMUNITY FAIR.................... IT'S ON!

SAVE THE DATE!.......26 MARCH 2021

Our amazing fair with rides, entertainment, markets, food trucks, and culminating in a fireworks display will be one of our best.  BUT WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOUR HELP.

We have a small dedicated group of people from the Parent Forum who are working to ensure the best possible fair. Now your assistance is needed.

HELP ON THE DAY:

We need every family to help on the day. If we each donate at least 1 hour to work at the fair, then everybody gets time to enjoy the evening with their families. There are a variety of ways to help. A note will be sent home via Compass providing you with the opportunity to volunteer.

PARENT ASSEMBLY

This year Mrs Jocelyn Reese has again offered to be the Parent Assembly Rep for our school. I am appealing for a parent to join her in the role and share the experience. The Parent Assembly supports parents and carers to be the best parents they can be and effective partners in their child's education by providing high quality and engaging opportunities.  Please contact the office if you would like to assist

CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES

  • Students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID 19 are not to attend school. Parents of symptomatic children should provide evidence of a negative result prior to returning to school. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter fro the GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
  • We will continue our regular COVID safe practices of student hand sanitising on entry to the school, after mealtimes and during the day.

Week 4 Highlights that we are truly grateful for:

Image result for we are grateful images

  • Ash Wednesday Mass and Liturgies.
  • Our swimmers who represented St Joseph's at Zone Level last Monday- you were amazing!

Have a wonderful weekend!

    RELIGIOUS MATTERS

1st SUNDAY OF LENT - GOSPEL REFLECTION

    Mark 1:12-15
Jesus is tempted in the desert.

Lent.PNGOn the first Sunday of Lent, the Gospel reading is about Jesus’temptation in the desert. This event in the life of Jesus is reported in each of the Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

During Lent, we are led by the Holy Spirit to reject all that is not good for us and to follow Jesus. Just as Jesus was ministered to by the angels, God also supports us in our struggles against temptation.

Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and giving. We can give our time, our patience, our love to others during Lent. We also can take the time to pray and listen to the needs of others

     Ash Wednesday – 17th February 2021

    Ash_Wednesday.PNG

This week the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to alleviate poverty, hunger, oppression and injustice.

We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each family has been given a Project Compassion box for their donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at lent.caritas.org.au

Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”

COULD ALL MISSION BOXES PLEASE BE RETURNED BY MONDAY 29th MARCH 2021

    SHROVE TUESDAY - PANCAKE DAY

Thank you to Helen Grissell, Gill O'Neil and Gayl Fetros for your huge contribution to the success of PANCAKE TUESDAY.

Your assistance in the purchasing, making and selling of the pikelets to our students was much appreciated.

Our students did enjoy the delicious treats and were generous in their giving to PROJECT COMPASSION.

Thank you to all for your generous support!

PROJECT COMPASSION - First Week of Lent

    Bangladesh.jpg

We begin our annual Lenten Project Compassion journey by learning about the story of Jamila and her family. Jamila, 22, is a Rohingya woman, living in the world’s largest refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. A single mother, she fled armed conflict in Myanmar to save herself, her elderly mother and an eight-month-old baby.

With the support of Caritas Australia, through Caritas Bangladesh, Jamila was able to access emergency food and shelter. She also received counselling, emotional support and learnt sewing skills, to help her earn an income.  Jamila now feels less alone, with a sense of community around her. She is able to ‘Be More’ to her little family.

    ·         860,494 people remain in the densely populated camps, in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, especially due to COVID-19. (UNHCR)

Watch a short film about Jamila’s story here.

    MAKING JESUS REAL - (MJR)

At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community and while at home and out in the community

MJR at St Joseph’s Woodburn encourages our students to be WEST people - that is WELCOMING, ENCOURAGING, SAY SORRY when needed and be THANKFUL.
