Week 7 Term 1 - 2021
Dear Families
During Lent, our staff and students will continue to work on our 3 Catholic practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As we begin the fourth week of Lent, we consider what actions we can take to be more transformative in what we say and do so that our lives can be a reflection of Jesus and all that He teaches us.
At school, the children have made a commitment for the duration of Lent. The commitment could be anything from a promise to help mum every day during Lent to a promise of a kind act each day to one of their siblings or a classmate. You could encourage your children to do this by asking questions and complimenting them
when they make a special effort.

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
A reminder that next week Parent-Teacher interviews on Monday 15 March and Tuesday 16 March between 3.40 pm and 6 pm. Thank you to those parents who have booked their meeting through the new Compass App.
These meetings provide the opportunity to meet individually with teachers to discuss any goals, concerns or queries you may have regarding your child’s education and I urge you all, if possible, to avail yourself of this opportunity. We look forward to sharing this time with you to further support your child's progress. Thank you for your cooperation.
PARENT FORUM MEETING MONDAY 15 MARCH
Our next Parent Forum Meeting will be held on Monday 15 March 2021 at 6 pm in the Library. We are working to finalise the St Joseph's Community Fair and Fireworks. Everyone is welcome to attend.
SCHOOL UNIFORM CHECK-IN
This week we focussing on the correct school uniform. We currently have a considerable range of incorrect shoes, socks and jumpers making their way to school. Please assist us by checking that your child/children are in the correct uniform. Respect and pride in our uniform are an important part of our school.
Just a reminder that the correct type of school shoes for St Joseph's uniform are listed in the parent handbook. Black plain leather or vinyl school shoes or joggers. Dunlop Volleys, Converse or canvas shoes are not appropriate for our uniform. Thank you for your effort to ensure that our students have pride and respect for our correct uniform.
CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES
- Students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID 19 are not to attend school. Parents of symptomatic children should provide evidence of a negative result prior to returning to school. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter fro the GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
- We will continue our regular COVID safe practices of student hand sanitising on entry to the school, after mealtimes and during the day.
Week 5 Highlights that we are truly grateful for:
- Stage 2 for their terrific Assembly today!
- The fact that our Stage 2 parents were allowed to attend the Assembly.
- Our students who are continuing the preparation for the Sacrament of Penance.
- The Student Representative Council for their ongoing organisation of his term's Fundraiser.
- The Parent Forum for their efforts, time and hard to bring us the St Joseph's Community Fair.
- Our parent community for getting involved, volunteering to help and supporting the St Joseph's Community Fair.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Regards
4th SUNDAY OF LENT - GOSPEL REFLECTION
John 3:14-21
Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son of Man will be raised up so that those who believe in him will have eternal life.
John’s Gospel teaches us that Jesus was the light that came into the world. In this light, we come to know ourselves, and we have been, by the grace of God saved because we have been forgiven through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
During Lent, many people take the opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation so that they can experience the joy of God’s forgiveness.
Our students Zoey Campbell, Sasha Franks, Madison Kirk, Ruby O' Neill, Charlotte Robinson, and Seleste Walsh, along with their families are currently preparing for their first Sacrament of Penance. They are gathering for Sacramental preparation sessions and attending the parish mass.
Please keep them in your prayers.
PROJECT COMPASSION 2021 - Aspire Not To Have More BUT BE MORE
Arsad, an Indonesian farmer, had no toilet in his house, so always had to walk into the forest to the open defecation area. His family was often sick and open defecation caused many neighbourhood disputes. With the support of Caritas Australia and its partner agency, Laz Harfa, Arsad took part in hygiene, sanitation and financial management training. He then funded the building of a toilet in his house and helped other community members to save money to construct their own toilet.
Now, Arsad’s family is healthier, their community no longer practices open defecation and is more harmonious. Arsad inspired his community to ‘Be More.’ Around 17 percent of Indonesia’s rural population, or 45 million people, practice open defecation – going to the toilet outdoors in fields, forests and other open spaces. (World Bank) Watch a short film about Arsad’s story here.
