Week 9 Term 2 - 2021
Dear Families
KINDERGARTENT 2022 INTERVIEWS
wonderful opportunity to talk to both our current and new parents. I am particularly interested to hear why people chose St Joseph's for their child. From their responses, we will get a snapshot of our school from the outside looking in. We get to know how some of the community feels about the teaching and learning; the inclusiveness; the values; the community and the Catholic ethos that permeates all. We continue to strive on a daily basis to make St Joseph's the best school it can be, and in that process, we always welcome and value your input.

ST JOSEPH'S ROAD SAFETY INFORMATION
SCHOOL SAFETY ZONES
School zone flashing lights provide an important warning to motorists that they are entering a 40km/h school zone. This lower speed limit reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash. The NSW Government has ensured that every school in NSW has at least one set of school zone flashing lights.
The school zone flashing lights program is one of the vital road safety programs
funded through speed and red light camera fines by the Community Road Safety
Fund.
The 40km/h school speed zones operate across NSW at all school sites on gazetted
school days (including school development days). Motorists should drive no faster
than 40 km/h through school zones. Most school zones operate from 8 to 9.30 am
and from 2.30 to 4 pm on gazetted school days.
There are a small number of non-standard school zone times in NSW. They are
identified by red/orange school zone signs to show non-standard times. Signs at
these schools show the times that apply.
PARENT PICKUP- Kiss and Drop
The turning circle out the front of the school is used for a “Kiss and Drop” area
before school and during parent pick up each afternoon. It is essential that traffic
moves safely and smoothly through this area so we have some clear regulations
around the use of this.
1. This is a NO PARKING area during 8:00-9:30 am and 2:30-4:00 pm. Please do not leave your vehicle during these times.
2. Please always drive as far around the circle as you can before stopping to collect
your child. This allows all cars to move smoothly.
3. For the safety of our students, this is only to be used if your child can get
themselves into their car seat, and their seatbelt on by themselves. Parents should
not leave their car during this time.
4. If you are unable to safely use the Kiss and Drop with your child, please park in
the designated parking bays opposite the church and walk around to the front of
the school to collect your child safely.
SRC FUNDRAISER- PYJAMA DAY
CURRENT COVID GUIDELINES
- Students and staff with even mild symptoms of COVID 19 are not to attend school. Parents of symptomatic children should provide evidence of a negative result prior to returning to school. In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from the GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.
- We will continue our regular COVID safe practices of student's hand sanitising on entry to the classrooms and after mealtimes and during the day.
WEEK 9 HIGHLIGHTS THAT WE ARE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION
The 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Mark 4: 35-41 Jesus Calms the Storm
This week’s Gospel describes how Jesus calmed a storm at sea. Jesus' disciples are frightened by a sudden storm; Mark notes the contrast between the disciples' terror and Jesus' peace. Jesus is sleeping, untroubled by what is going on around him.
unconcerned. At that time, Jesus is disappointed by their lack of faith and perspective. When we bring our worries to God in prayer, we should have faith and hope that all will be well as our problems are in God’s hand.
THANK YOU: CELEBRATING FIRST EUCHARIST
Last Saturday Zoey Campbell, Sylvie Davis, Sasha Franks, Madison Kirk, Ruby O'Neill, Charlotte Robinson and Seleste Walsh celebrated their first Holy Communion at the parish Mass. We congratulate them and their families.
A sincere thank you to the team effort involved in the preparation and celebration of this important sacrament. Thank you to Mel Handford-King, Sonny Handford-King and Anna O'Neill for assisting in the preparation of the supper your support was much appreciated.
We thank parishioners, students and teachers for the personalised gifts and mementoes that were given to each candidate after receiving their First Eucharist certificate. The farewell to Father Jim from the parish was also a memorable occasion. He will be sadly missed by all.
Religious Education - Year 5
Celebrating The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Students in Year 5 were given the challenge by Mrs Spencer to create a word art with words that describe Jesus’ message to the disciples and the disciple's experience of the Holy Spirit. Below are some excellent responses by Clancy Newman and Ariella Mangan, they certainly used their creativity and knowledge to share their understanding.
MAKING JESUS REAL - (MJR)
At St Joseph’s Woodburn we encourage our students to “Make Jesus Real’” by the way they act in our school community and while at home and out in the community
