Week 1- Term 1 - 2022
Dear Families
Welcome to the 2022 school year! We hope that you have enjoyed a wonderful holiday filled with relaxation, renewal and special family moments.
We look forward to a wonderful new year with many opportunities for learning, growing and becoming connected. It is a little bit of a different beginning yet again this year but I hope that it has been as smooth a transition as possible with few anxious moments. We thank you for helping to keep us all safe by following the COVID 19 guidelines.
Special thanks to you our parents for your cooperation with the Maths Assessment Interviews. These assessments allow us to gain invaluable information on each student so that teachers can target their Mathematics instruction to accommodate individual student needs.
It has been a lovely beginning to the School Year. I know that it is only day 2 of the children being back in classes but their excitement at being in a new class and back with their friends is a joy to witness.
A special part of our commencement of the School Year yesterday was to welcome the 2022 Kindergarten children and families to the Joseph's School community. It was wonderful to see them arrive looking so excited! The children have eased into Week 1 and are adapting well to 'big school'. I would like to say a big thank you to their Year 6 buddies who have shown wonderful leadership skills in caring and assisting them in many different ways. The Kinders know that they have a familiar face to turn to if needed throughout the day.
Welcome to our new families
- To Year 1 we welcome Abaigeal Ashton and her family (Aishling, Cameron and Jasmine)
- To Year 1 we welcome back Zaylia Currie and her family (Tazman, Jacob, Julian and Peyten)
- To Year 3 we welcome Amelia Hume and her family (Amanda, David and Jasmine)
- To Year 3 we welcome Hunter Prodanovic and his family (Jade, Nathan and Talen)
- To Year 5 we welcome back Alyssa Symonds (Lisa and Brent are current parents)
- To Year 6 we welcome Abel Lewis and his dad (Daniel)
Active Kids
The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the Active Kids program. The Active Kids program provides two $100 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year. Voucher 1 is valid from January to December and Voucher 2 is valid from July to December.
Active Kids is funded until June 2023 so there’s still plenty of opportunity to be a part of the program.
For more information visit the link below.
Parent Information Night
It is our usual practice, within the first few weeks of being back at school, to hold a parent information night to give parents the opportunity to hear about what the children will
be learning throughout the year and the expectations around behaviour, attitude, goal setting, etc in each classroom. These meetings are then followed with individual parent/teacher interviews towards the end of Term 1 where together goals can be set for the 2022 school year.
At this stage, we will delay the parent information night until a little later in the term in keeping with the current COVID 19 guidelines. We will let you know as soon as it is possible to resume meetings with parents on site. Thank you for your understanding.
The Engagement of Parents in School Life
As a Catholic learning community, St Joseph's Catholic Primary School strives to be welcoming and connected, supporting the engagement of parents as partners in their children’s learning and wellbeing, and their involvement in the life and community of the school and parish.
Parent engagement is more than volunteering and helping out at the school. While we value any contribution you can make to school life, we understand that work and family commitments can make it difficult to be involved in an ongoing way. However, you can still engage in your child’s learning and wellbeing by supporting and/or attending:
- Mass and prayer celebrations with the parish and school community
- Our Parish Based sacramental programs
- Parent information nights and parent/teacher meetings
- Parent Forum Meetings and community events –
- School assemblies
- School open days and special occasions
- Canteen
- ...and offering any other practical assistance either on-site or from home
Under the current COVID 19 guidelines, we are unable to invite parents on site for the first 4 weeks of school except for working in the Canteen.
Depending on the ongoing guidelines we will be in contact regarding Parent Forum meetings and other parent engagement opportunities.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
5th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 5:1-11
In this week's Gospel, the fishermen (Simon, James, and John) leave their fishing boats and follow Jesus. Jesus urges us to banish his fears and step out in faith to share the message of God's goodness with others. We should remember that every time we show a simple act of kindness or goodness to others we witness the love of God. We can bring people to Jesus through the example and positive influence of our lives.
