Week 10 Term 2 - 2022
Dear Families
And so we come to the end of Term 2. As this will be our last Newsletter for this term I would like to thank everyone who has supported our school throughout Term 2.
It has been a very fast-paced and busy term as we have worked to grow our learning, our school and our support of and for our community.
Thank you to the staff for your support to ensure that everything runs smoothly despite the daily interruptions and adaptions on our new site, and for giving your best at all times for our students learning and wellbeing.
Special thanks to the children, who are the life and spirit of our school - their interest, enthusiasm, cooperation, joy and amazingly strong spirit and honesty make this school a delight, and welcoming place to be each day.
Finally to you, our parents, many who are doing it extremely tough, we thank you for your ongoing support and assistance, for sticking with us and for believing in us. We couldn't do it without you walking beside us. We will continue to support and be with you every step of the way.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Year C - The 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Gospel Reading: Luke 10:1-12,
Jesus is preparing his disciples for mission. He leaves them in no doubt about the challenges, obstacles and dangers that will await them. They will succeed however because the power of God is working with them. Accordingly 'the seventy return with joy'.
Families teach a sense of togetherness and community. It is in the family that we learn that we are dependent on one another and where we learn to work together and live together. In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus sends out the 72 disciples in pairs, a sign that we are to work together to serve the mission of the Kingdom of God.
Think about all the ways that your family works together. What are the various chores and tasks that family members work on together to accomplish in order to keep the household running smoothly?
It was important that Jesus sent his disciples out in pairs. How can we in our family work more closely together to support one another and to make the household run more smoothly? May we have the strength to overcome the temptation to be too individualistic and to recognize the need for working together as a family.
STORMBIRDS: Growing through natural disaster
Because of the recent floods, we have all experienced various change and loss issues. Some of our students we feel would benefit from participating in the small group program called Stormbirds: Growing through natural disaster. This program was successfully implemented in Victoria following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. It was developed by Good Grief Ltd, an Australian organisation that has had long experience in grief and loss education, particularly through their Seasons for Growth program which is used extensively throughout Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
The Stormbirds small group program of 4 sessions (50-60 minutes) aims to support children
- Manage the personal impact of the changes they have experienced
- Understand that their reactions are normal
- To “take charge” of their attitudes, feelings and behaviours
- Develop skills for coping, problem-solving and decision making
- Build their support network with families, friends, teachers and others
Resilience building and strengthening supportive relationships are vital aspects of recovering from such large-scale change events as natural disasters and the challenges that have had to be faced in their wake.
Stormbirds: will commence in Term 3 Stormbirds will be organised and facilitated by Ms Danielle Nilon, Mrs Amy Bolkum and Mrs Megan Boyd
We thank you for your interest in this program and the many responses.
St Joseph’s is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
