Week 7 Term 3 - 2022
Dear Families
Week 7 has brought us much joy! We finished a successful Book Fair, Healthy Harold rolled into Evans and we got to CELEBRATE OUR DADS!
FATHERS ARE CELEBRATED AND LOVED AT ST JOSEPH'S
FATHER'S DAY MASS
Kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 led a beautiful whole school Mass for our dads today. A big thank you to Mrs Jett, Mrs Barnes, Mrs Lowrey, and Mr Sandral for the preparation. It was wonderful that so many dads, mums, and siblings were able to join us for the celebration.
In his Homily, Fr Peter read a letter that a 15-year-old boy wrote to the editor of his local paper. The words beautifully encapsulate the role of a dad.
Dear Sir,
A great man died today. He wasn't a world leader or a famous doctor, a war hero, or a great spokesman. He wasn't a big businessman. You would never see his name up in lights. But he was one of the greatest men who ever lived. He was my father. I guess you could say he was a person who was never interested in getting credit or receiving honours. He did simple things like paying the bills, going to Mass on weekends, helping out at school functions, and St Vincent De Paul. He helped us, kids, with our homework, and drove mum to do the shopping on Thursday evenings. He got a great kick out of taking his teenagers and their friends to and from footy games. Dad enjoyed simple pastimes like picnics and playing bowls. Opera wasn't exactly his cup of tea. He liked Country music, mowing the lawn, and walking the dog. He didn't own a tuxedo and I'm sure he never tasted caviar.
Tonight is my first night without him. I don't know what to do with myself, so I'm writing to you. I'm sorry now for the times I didn't show him the proper respect but I'm grateful for a lot of other things. I am thankful that God let me have my father for 15 years and I'm happy that I was able to let him know how much I loved him. That wonderful man died with a smile on his face and fulfillment in his heart. He knows that he was a great success as a husband and father, a brother, son, and friend.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Year C - The 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Luke 14:25-33
Jesus teaches about the demands of discipleship.
In the Gospel for this Sunday, Jesus speaks to us about how, if we want to follow him, we have to make him our priority. He also talks to us about how difficult this can be.
Jesus wants us to know that by following him, we will find happiness. At the same time, he wants us to know that following him is not always easy. We're lucky that Jesus is so honest with us about what it takes to follow him.
