Week 3 Term 4 - 2022
Dear Families,
We have had another fantastic week at St Joseph's. Our Stage 3 students made it to Canberra and we cannot wait to see them on Monday to hear all about their experience and adventure. Our Stage 2 Students were leaders for the week and did a great job covering all the Stage 3 jobs and responsibilities.
Resilience Survey
On Wednesday the 2nd of November our school will be participating in the Resilience Survey. The Resilience Survey is Australia’s most widely utilised mental health and wellbeing survey for schools, designed and delivered by Resilient Youth Australia. It is the first step in a new local initiative, the Resilient Kids program. The survey is completely anonymous and user-friendly for students aged 7 years and over. It will be administered in class and typically takes students 20-25 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation in this survey project, please contact the office. If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the form sent out on compass and return it to the school by Monday the 31st of October.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION:
Year C - The 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel Reading
Luke 19:9-110
Jesus stays at the house of Zacchaeus, the tax collector.
In this Sunday's Gospel, we read that in his encounter with Jesus, Zacchaeus a tax collector, who was not looked upon favourably by the community, experiences a change of heart, a conversion, and receives the gift of reconciliation.
Zaccheus wanted to "see" Jesus, while Jesus wanted to "meet and stay" with Zaccheus. We too, can experience a change of heart and seek the gift of reconciliation with those that have wronged us. or those we need to rebuild relationships with. We just need a little courage and faith.
St Joseph's Woodburn - SPIRIT OF JESUS AWARD
Last term our school was visited by Mr Peter Mitchell "Mitch" who
wrote the "Making Jesus Real" books. He spoke to our students about the Spirit of Jesus and how we can be living disciples of Jesus. He explained that "spirit" can sometimes be a difficult word to understand but the spirit of Jesus is something that we can feel in our hearts and see through other people.
If we have the spirit of Jesus in our hearts, then we are kind, compassionate, welcoming, cheerful, friendly, encouraging, giving, forgiving thankful, and respectful
Our first award has been given to Jackson Marsden from Year One for always showing respect to others and using his beautiful manners. Congratulations Jackson!
ALL SAINTS DAY - Tuesday 1st November
November 1st is a special day called the feast of All Saints. It is the day the Church celebrates all the people who have died and are now with God in heaven. Everyone who has lived and died in Jesus’ love is a saint. Some of these people are members of our family, our friends, and our neighbors. We do not know the names of all the saints. Some of these people were so much like Jesus that after they died, the Church said they were definitely in heaven. In a special way on All Saints Day, we remember Saint Mary the mother of Jesus, Saint Joseph, and the life and wisdom of the founder of the St Joseph's Sisters - Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
Water Awareness Program.
The students will participate in a Water Awareness Swimming Program at the Evans Head Aquatic Pool. The four sessions will occur on Tuesday 1st November, Tuesday 8th November, Thursday 10th November and Tuesday 6th December 2022. This program develops the children's water awareness strategies which are aligned with the PDHPE syllabus. Parent helpers are more than welcome to assist, please contact the office to leave your name and the classroom teacher will be in contact. Unfortunately, younger siblings will not be able to attend if you are helping a group.
All students will need a permission note and payment completed on Compass before Tuesday.
